A Simple Thanks

A Simple Thanks, Take The Time : Tonight I listened to several versions of amazing grace. All, were a tribute to our fallen soldiers. Oh My God!!! While we worry about who should be president, the economy, discrimination for color and religion, we forget about those who are being killed. Those who believe they are dying to give us this freedom and right to complain. Maybe it is time to just say thanks to those who are willing to give so much. Maybe it is time to remember the Vets from WW1 and WW2 who died to keep us from being taken from our beliefs and freedom that we have and enjoy. Maybe it is time to just say thanks to the Korean Vets and Vietnam Vets that we spat on. Didn't they go and fight for us so we could have the today? So we didn’t have to fight? So we could have the right to complain? Maybe it is time to just say thanks to our soldiers today. Maybe we don't believe in why they are there, but they do because they believe in us. Last Week, we were in a restaurant and we saw a woman walk up to a young man in uniform and just say thank you. She just said thanks and several people stood, and applauded as he stood, and saluted them with a tear running down is face. A simple gesture, that touched so many. Just say thank you. Simple, but we sometimes forget. Isn't it time to remember? Remember what we have and why. So simple, and, so pure. Freedom!! It is not the Republicans or Democrats, but Americans. They are the ones who have believed in one thing, FREEDOM!!!!! I write this to you because I know that you believe. You believe in the rights of men and women. You believe in the strength of the people in the end. May a higher being guide us. Even though I am a heathen I believe that the combined faith of a people will triumph over the evil that is in front of us. Take a moment today, if you see our soldiers. Walk up and just say thank you. Let them know you care. From an American” - Gary Lyn

The Wedding Toast

The Wedding Toast: It has been a beautiful day, hasn’t it? All of those months of planning and then it is over so quickly. But everything went perfectly. A beautiful Bride and a handsome Groom and a beautiful day. There is something I would like you to do for me. Please start at the left side of the room and move to the right. Look at the people That have taken time out of their journey in life to come here and Be a part of both of you starting your journey in life together. Please take your time, for each one of these people in some way, whether great or small Has influenced and molded your lives and brought you to this point in time. They are wonderful, aren’t they? But as you start your journey together I will not wish you all sunshine in your lives. For as everyone knows nothing but sunshine creates a desert leaving nothing but sand and wind. I will not wish you this because I am afraid that the wind would blow your love for each other away, like So many grains of sand. Instead, I will wish you some rain in your life. As we all know the rain helps make things grow stronger. And as the storm passes, and the Sun appears we see one of our most beautiful gifts. The Rainbow. With its colors so bright we look up to see it and feel the warmth of the sun and it makes us feel stronger. The myth of the rainbow is the magical pot of Gold at the end of it. As you reach your pot of gold I wish not to be full of gold but that it to be full and overflowing with the love that you have for each other. For at the end of your journey together, in this life, you will find that your love for each other, was your strength and all that ever really mattered. So would everyone please raise their glass and give a toast to the beautiful couple and their rainbow. May it always be the brightest in the sky and may your love always overflow the mythical pot at its end.” - Gary Lyn

How do you ever understand why?

How do you ever understand why?: I guess we can’t. It is why there is someone above us to help. So young and small. It just isn’t fair. It hurts so much. It brings up an old memory, of a young boy in Vietnam, 1968. He shouldn’t have been there because he lied about his age but, well he always broke the rules. It was in his first fire fight. Located around a small village at night and he saw so many people being injured and killed. The sounds of rounds capping and mortars exploding made him freeze in fear. As he froze he saw a young girl, not much older than himself. She held a baby in her arms. Ignoring the chaos around her she kneeled down and began digging in the ground. Even at his young age he knew what needed to be done. He moved towards her, the war around him suddenly silenced and helped her dig the small grave. She looked up at him as tears stained her face, and nodded in thanks. As they laid the small child in the grave and covered her, the young girl looked up at the heavens and smiled. He looked at her, puzzled, now his face stained with tears. Her child died because of a war she didn’t cause but she smiled. Why? He asked as he looked at her. Do you have a garden? She asked. The beautiful young flowers, when they bloom, don’t you pick the youngest blooms to brighten your house? Today God picked my daughter out of his garden. A young bloom to be in his house, to add beauty to it. She will be always young and beautiful with his love and not feel the pain of this world. Then the young girl ran off and suddenly he was back in the reality of hell and the war. He survived but yet today when I see a garden I think of the young girl. And when a young child is taken I look up and smile. God, today your garden is beautiful with the new bloom. Please help us understand that in your wisdom the pain is gone and the child that we love and will miss will always be a young and beautiful flower in your house and always loved by you and by us.” - Gary Lyn

a morning in a small town church

A Morning In A Small Town Church: It was a rainy Sunday Morning as He got out of bed. A promise needed to be kept and today was the time to fulfill it. He slowly got dressed for he wasn’t sure if he should go that day. The night before had been full of liquor and dance. Was it right to be there this morning? Would His friend be embarrassed? He left the house that morning, nervous. Today, he would fill a promise to a friend that he held in his arms while he passed on in the midst of the fog of a war around them almost 30 years ago. The friend had given his life for the children of a mission. Just sing Why Me Lord he said and you will understand. As he slipped away, it was still confusing to him. Maybe it is time, almost 30 years later, to understand. It was a small town and a church with maybe 80 people, as he walked in. The Preacher met him and said welcome. He said, I have come to play and sing for a friend. Please forgive me, but I need to do this to honor a friend who believed and gave his life for others, and me. The Preacher smiled. We have been waiting for you. Please honor us with your song. As he began to play and sing Why Me Lord, the people began to enter and sit. The Preacher walked slowly down the aisle and stood at the pulpit as he finished. As the song ended, the Preacher announced, today I have been sent a message from my son from so many years ago. I knew as he died God and a friend held him in their arms. Today, we are blessed with a true message from song and I believe we have never been so close to our Lord. He smiled, looked at me and said thank you as tears were flowing down his face. I got up and left then. A cool flow of air went through my body as I left the church. Strange, since it was 95, and humid there. As I left, I realized, that was my friend’s Father. I had picked the church where he preached. I had said goodbye to his Father for him. How could it be that I would Know? Today, I still wonder. Our time here is short and the lives we touch are so important. Let us leave Love and Promise as we touch them. For in the end, Love is all that really mattered. Goodbye My Friend” - Gary Lyn

if i could talk daddy

If I Could Talk Daddy: We Played Ball every night I was fast and could catch But now, I fall and it hurts and I cry When I was tired I was with you in the chair I knew I was safe But now, it hurts and I can't lay their In my yard I could see my squirrels at the tops of the trees I would wait and chase them for fun Now, I can only lay there and smell them in the breeze You took me on trips in the car I jumped in and out wanting to see and smell new things Now you have to help me in and out and I just go to be where you are I did really funny things and let you pet me In your sad times to help you be happy again But, now I hurt too bad and just want to sleep Mommy always made sure I had neat stuff to eat She made sure I was better when I was sick But now, I am too sick to taste and eat Daddy, I love both of you, you know But look at my eyes I want to go I want to play ball again I want to run and jump again I want to see and hear again I love you and will see you again Coco” - Gary Lyn

freedom:

You here the songs You see the pictures You are told to remember You are told to feel But do we? A young soldier was assigned the guard duty of prisoners captured. He was there fighting a war in a country that he didn’t understand He asked one of the captured rebels why they fought their government? Why they caused so much grief in their country. The answer made him believe again. The young rebel said once there was a little colony that fought for the right to be free. Fought to have liberty and the right to choose their religion and destiny for the people. Fought for freedom. Fought and died to give these things to their children and grand children. Fought for the chance for equality and the freedom of choice. And through the years soldiers like you have fought to keep these rights alive. In America We hate you for what you have but love you for the dream you defend. The young soldier could only stand to attention and salute the young rebel. As he turned away, with tears streaming down his cheeks, he looked up And said a prayer of thanks to the Veterans who had sacrificed so much to allow Him the right to stand proud today. The Veterans in all wars who we should honor today. The Veterans who are there for us today. Have we forgotten? I hope not. The rest of the world knows what we have. May God bless those who have given so much to give us what we have today. Freedom” - Gary Lyn

to my son

To My Son: It is only 2 for you, with so much to see and do. You will find the things that make you happy And the things that make you sad. But whatever Things you go through, I will always be there too Because I love you, and I always will be Dad. The first day of school I know you will be scared. Standing there alone thinking that something will be bad. I want you to put on the biggest smile that you could ever wear. Because I will be there with you, because I love you and will be there And I will always be Dad. Before your Mom knows it, you will be asking for the car. Mom there is a dance tonight, and, well, you know how things are. She will give you that look of hers and tell you are too young to send But you will give her a hug and a smile and win in the end. Suddenly you are so much older. It happened much too fast. And there is a pretty girl coming down the aisle all dressed in white Your Mom is crying son, but don’t worry, that won’t last And in the back there is Dad, maybe a tear hidden in the light. Then one day you will be looking at your own gift from heaven. Looking at your own child sleeping in your home. And as you smile and think, you will suddenly know what I meant when I said I will always be Dad and I will always Love you and I will always be there. Son if you ever need to see me or be sure I am there. Just look on the highway and see that 18 wheeler going by I’ll be shifting and driving to get that load somewhere But my heart will be with you because you are the apple of my eye, Why, because I am Dad, and will love you and always be with you So you will never have to wonder why. Love Dad” - Gary Lyn

the Heart and Soul of Our Country

The Soul of our Country isn't the Media that promotes hate and division for ratings. It isn't politicians who all lie and make promises to get votes. Not the colleges and schools who teach that our Country was built on hate. Not the Allies we have who only love us when we give them money or send our young men and woman to fight their wars. The Soul of this country  is the Majority of Americans that just want to work, raise and enjoy their children and dream of providing them a better life.  The ones who don't wake up everyday hating someone because of where they came from, their religion or race. The ones who realize that  building a nation by assimilating so many cultures isn't easy and that mistakes have been made. And remembering those mistakes in our history so they are not made again. My Uncle said during his time in WW2 they captured a German Officer. While questioning him he told them that the Germans considered the American officers poor leaders. But, if the Germans had the American soldiers they could win the world because American's never quit even when defeated.                                                                                                                                            The soul and heart of our Country is built on that and is strong.

The Old Man in the Corner

They are never really gone.

It is time
The family party has started
The kids are so much older now
The grandkids have brought their own childern
So many sharing in the laughter
But nobody really notices the old man in the corner

Grandma smiles with a tear in her eyes
Watching, listening to everything
The laughter bringing music to her ears
The stories being told
The hugs and love being shared
But nobody really notices the old man in the corner

The Old man had stopped by
Before leaving on his new journey
Filled with pride and joy
Watching his family
Filling his soul with the love in the room

Watching as the dinner was finished
Watching the young and old open their gifts
Watching as each one realized
Their greatest gift was each other
But nobody really notices the old man in the corner

And then a moment of silence
As a prayer was spoken
Thanking how blessed they are
And then, at the end of the silence
His sons look at him in the corner and smile

The Old Man smiles and nods
And then, he is gone
But they know he will always be there
